Animal Use

Humans aren’t the only ones who suffer from joint disease. Animals also suffer arthritic lameness and DJD (degenerative joint disease).

Biolane^® Extract has been shown to be effective for animals with inflammatory or degenerative joint problems. It has been used successfully with dogs, cats, horses, camels, and elephants.

DOGS

Published research (NZ Vet Journal, Volume 54, Number 3, June 2006) has proven that Biolane^® has a beneficial effect on the clinical signs of mild to moderate DJD in dogs. The study was conducted by the Institute of Animal and Biomedical Sciences, Massey University, New Zealand.

The study involved 81 dogs, and was double-blind and placebo controlled. The dogs underwent musculoskeletal and radiography examinations to identify affected joints and confirm the DJD diagnosis. They were then treated with a tabletted dog supplement that contained Biolane^® Extract.

The study results showed that dogs tolerated Biolane^® well, and that it had significant benefits on the clinical signs of their DJD.

Many dog species (e.g. Labrador, German Shepherd) tend to suffer from genetic joint problems. Some breeders claim that if such animals are provided with Biolane® from a young age (during joint development), their incidence of DJD is far less.

HORSES

Biolane^® has also been proven to provide relieve symptoms of lameness in horses.

Research conducted at Animal Science Faculty of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany, in July 2001 confirmed the efficacy of Biolane® Extract in horses with DJD.

This double-blind, placebo controlled study was called “The efficacy of the Green Lipped Mussel Extract (Seatone^®)*, in horses with degenerative joint disease”.

Researchers evaluated treatment results within the parameters of clinical lameness and x-ray examinations. All horses taking the extract showed significant improvement in their clinical symptoms when compared with the placebo group.

No undesirable side effects were observed, and the study concluded that Biolane® Extract led to significant clinical symptom improvement in horses with DJD.

OTHERS

Biolane® Extract is also effective for other kinds of animals in zoos and animal parks. For example, Kashin the elephant and Sesame the Camel both benefited from products containing Biolane®.
