How does Biolane^® Work?

Specific therapeutic actions

Biolane® Extract contains several biologically-active compounds that help to reduce pain and increase mobility in arthritic or damaged joints by:

• increasing microcirculation (circulation through the capillaries)
• reducing inflammation (anti-inflammatory)
• protecting cartilage and providing the building blocks to maintain and repair it (chondroprotective)

Biolane^® also protects the stomach & kidney tissues (gastroprotective), and aids muscle recovery and sports endurance.

Which compounds in Biolane^® provide the benefit?

Because it is a natural extract, Biolane^® contains several compounds that give it the beneficial properties. The main components are carbohydrates, with lipids being secondary.

The therapeutic effects of the extract result from the complementary effects of the different compounds working together.

Active components of Biolane^® Extract

Active components that have been identified in Biolane® Extract include:

• Glycogen Complex - the principal anti-inflammatory
• Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids - the secondary anti-inflammatory
• Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids - pain relief
• Lipids - gastroprotection
• Glycosaminoglycans - joint lubrication, shock absorption and articular
  cartilage maintenance (i.e., chondroprotection)
• Marine Minerals - encourage healthy cell osmosis

Stomach and kidney protective actions

Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are the most commonly used anti-arthritis agents. These drugs carry a high risk of gastro-intestinal problems, e.g. ulceration and bleeding, particularly in elderly.

Research shows that Biolane® Extract does not cause any ulcers in the stomach lining or damage to the kidneys. In fact, Biolane® actually helps to protect the stomach from the harmful effects of NSAIDs.

How long will it take for Biolane^® to work?

Most people feel reduced pain within 2-4 weeks. However, we recommend taking Biolane^® products for a full 2 months before making any decisions about the effectiveness.

NOTE: some people actually feel a slight initial increase in pain after 1-2 days of taking a Biolane^® product. This quickly goes away after a day or two, and these people often go on to have excellent results with the product.

What evidence is there that Biolane^® works?

More than 20 scientific studies have been conducted on Biolane^® over many years, by a range of reputable medical research organisations from a range of countries.

Note that nearly all Green Lipped Mussel product clinical studies were conducted specifically on Biolane® Extract, which was developed 30 years ago as the original mussel extract. It is manufactured using a unique cold liquid extraction process, and clinical results from these studies cannot be generalised to other mussel products.
